Charlie Geis
Born in Silver Springs, Maryland 1970. Moved to the beautiful North Shore of Long Island, NY. Kings Park. 1973. Upon graduating High School I looked at opportunities to attend school away from home, Far enough for some independence, but close enough for visits with friends and family. So I moved to Hofstra University in Hempstead, LI about 45 minutes away. I lived there all four and a half years while studying accounting, finance, economics, education, rugby, fraternity life, and acting as a Residential Assistant for the last two and a half years. Thereafter, I moved home for a year and half and commuted to NYC on the LIRR. A better way led to joining my best friend as a flat-mate in Ozone Park, Queens. No more LIRR, we rode the fabled "A train". I began my NYC career in Financial Services working for a subsidiary of Thomson Financial (now ThomsonReuters), called Muller Data Corporation. This entry level position as an Account Administrator soon led to one of the top positions in my department as a Senior Corporate Bond Analyst. Change beckoned and I found myself interviewing for Credit Suisse First Boston, one of the premier investment banks of the time and one of the few banks that have so far avoided much of the fallout from the 2008 meltdown. Tapped on the shoulder one day from the Head of the Fixed Income Trading desk I was soon on an early morning flight to San Francisco interviewing for a job in the Sales Department. I was smitten right away. The perfect combination of everything I knew and loved. Seafood, ocean, beaches, parks, and a city feel and night life. But there was more; Wine country and Lake Tahoe. I became passionate about wine and cast myself over precipices I would have never imagined. A chance meeting at a wine party I attended introduced me to a local small business owner of a wine bar and retail shop in Marin, CA. I accepted his offer to work with him and learn all I could about the business, the wine, and the industry. Whereupon, I met my current business partner in The Vin Club. And here we are.
