Christian Stevens

Johannesburg, South Africa

I have a joint biology and chemistry B.S. from Harvey Mudd College '14 where I spent three years studying RNA-based gene therapies for HIV. In the future I am looking to pursue an M.D. / Ph.D.

I'm spending a year as a Watson Fellow traveling from Malawi to the Congo to Shanghai, China to Tomsk Oblast in Russia to look at the ways doctors interact with their patients in a variety of communities.

I am particularly interested in cross-cultural interactions where issues of power and privelege play a major role. Anything from educated urban doctors treating rural patients to western doctors treating African patients to the doctor-patient relationship within the prison system.
