Ashrafyeh - Mar Mkhayel

I view Lebanon as an extremely opressed country, a mass of people who are forced to constantly occupy their thoughts with the idea of a passive war. Any kind of art is undervalued, undermined, disresepcted; the Lebanese population clings to a lifestyle that yeilds tension. Any keen eye can see the local artistic potential left unexplored; the time has come for us to rise with an artistic revolution; a peacefull but rabid movement that will give local artists some space to breathe, to produce, to create within a community of artists alike. This is more or less the mission statement of Haven For Artists; an NGO in Lebanon that pushes to procure a comfortable environment, where art is not only accepted, but also respected and valued. I'm extremely thrilled about being involved in such a movement, I believe Beirut needs it more than anything else at this time. I graduated from the Lebanese American University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Studies; and had worked behind various bars in Hamra, Gemmayze, and Mar Mkhayel areas; but after graduation I have decided to settle for a day job, and got lucky with finding one at "Tinta Negra - A space dedicated to spanish culture." Now I spend my time around books and art, reading, writing, while also meeting extremely cultivated people.
