Executive Chef Gary Netter
Culinary Ambassador for the City of New Orleans in Louisiana
I am Executive Chef Gary Netter, Culinary Ambassador for the city of New Orleans appointed by Mayor Latoya Cantrell. I'm a New Orleans native and an alumnus of New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) where I studied classical music. I was awarded a music scholarship to Southern University but decided to pursue my passion for culinary art.
My love for cooking was ignited at a young age. I would eagerly wait to taste the flavor medleys of my mother’s (Elnora Netter) homemade dishes. The awe of her ability to combine ingredients to make select recipes sparked a flame within me.
I've studied under the American Culinary Federation (ACF), Delgado Culinary, and Houston Culinary (HCC) Art Programs. I've amassed well over 20 years of hands-on experience in the food industry.
I've had the prestigious honor of cooking for former United States Presidents George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton. Chef Netter has gained experience working in some of New Orleans finest restaurants such as Commander’s Palace, Palace Café Nola, Emeril’s Restaurant, Muriel’s Jackson Square, and G.W. Finns just to name of few. I've worked with chefs like Paul Prudhomme, John Folse, Dickie Brennan, Jamie Shannon, Emeril Lagasse, Charlie Trotter, Leah Chase, Poppy Tucker, and Norman Van Akin. Their guidance has taught me to pay close attention to detail and inspired strive for excellence in growing his culinary craft.
In 2005, following the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I returned to New Orleans after residing in Houston, Texas. I opened my first business named, NEXT Beauty Barber Deli. The NEXT concept arose from the idea that each of us can have a turn to "sit at the table."
Next To Eat, is now a premier food service provider focusing on the hospitality industry. Next To Eat specializes in preparing dietary restricted meals for people with chronic illnesses and to help in their recovery from surgery. In addition to providing food service, Next To Eat provides business consulting for startups and existing businesses.
I am grateful for the opportunity to partner with the City of New Orleans and I'm passionate about my contribution. I'm determined to bridge our culinary community and to create inclusion for all.
