Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to work with students from a variety of communities, backgrounds and ages. I have worked as a teacher’s aide in a classroom for children with severe special needs, a nursery school teacher at a private school, and even did some time as a substitute teacher in a Jr. /Sr. high school. Every classroom, no matter what the age or education level, challenged me to be creative and animated at every opportunity.
As I worked on my degree in Communication Disorders at UMASS Amherst, I realized that I had a passion for two subjects; theater and teaching. Fortunately, while student teaching and working as a substitute teacher, I found that every day in a classroom needs to be a performance by the teacher in order for the students to enjoy and absorb what they are being taught.
I am excited to begin the 2014-2015 school year as part of the kindergarten team at South Street Elementary. It was here at SSES that I realized I could best utilize my skills as a performer and an educator. Young children constantly demand variety, enthusiasm and attention, all of which I am eager to bring to my classroom!
