chemical theology

I am a Protestant Christian currently studying chemistry at the undergraduate level.

To me, "Protestant Christian" is a simple way of saying that I believe that the Protestant 66-book Bible is best understood as the unfolding God's thoughts, will, and actions throughout history. I diverge from the views of men such as Bart Ehrman in that I believe that God is sovereign (all-powerful) over the events of humankind and does intervene for the sake of his people,. I part ways from the views of men such as Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) in that I do not believe that humanity is capable of approaching God apart from Jesus Christ.

Ultimately, I believe that the Christian identity is rooted in trusting in Jesus Christ to be sufficient for one's life and godliness (1 Pt 1:3 ESV). That is what I mean when I say that I am a Christian. I am saying that Jesus is my only hope for living in communion with God, both in this life and in the life to come. It is my belief that the world's many injustices are a clear picture of the result of humanity's broken relationship with our Creator God. By receiving Jesus Christ in faith as Kurios--Greek for Lord/Master; used in the Septuagint (Greek Old Testament + Apocrypha [extrabiblical writings]) to mean "God." (Rom 10:9 ESV)-- who died, was buried, and resurrected from the dead on the third day in accordance with the scriptures (1 Cor 15:3-4 ESV), anyone is able to become a child of God, simply for believing what God said (John 1:12 ESV; Genesis 15:6 ESV), where belief is trust as opposed to intellectual assent.

In addition to my spiritual views, my scientific views also represent an important facet of my life. At the moment, I am finishing my senior year at a private liberal arts university with a degree in biochemistry and commencing studies in chemistry at the graduate level this fall at a state school in the Midwestern U.S. I am most likely going to study single-molecule spectroscopy, but am also seriously considering a structural chemical biology or a fungal organic chemistry project. Following the achievement of my doctorate, I intend to pursue a postdoc or two, continue in academia as a professor and/or principle investigator, or join industry.

Hobbies of mine include biblical studies, spending time with my drop-dead gorgeous girlfriend, mathematics, philosophy, literature, anthropology, weight-lifting, running, swimming, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
