And then I had a conversation with a friend about house/pet sitting.

I went home and googled "how to become a pet sitter". Several blogs came up and there were several sites where you could pay to register yourself as a pet/house sitter. I used two sites, had some references put up, and within a month found my first job in the Andalucia area of southern Spain. A beautiful old farmhouse surrounded by olives, with two adorable cats to pamper. I was on my way!
