Between 1969 and 2010, Cheryl Catzman taught a variety of classes at an alternative school in Brampton, Ontario, which is part of the Peel District School Board. She designed curricula, planned lessons, ordered textbooks, and designed field trips for classes such as Drama, Secondary English, Cooking, and Media. A lifelong drama enthusiast, Ms. Catzman directed many of the school's musicals. Ms. Catzman was educated in Toronto, where she attended York University and the University of Toronto, earning her Bachelor of Arts with honours. She studied English and Drama there and was an extremely active participant in school plays.
In her spare time, Cheryl Catzman enjoys watching movies and reading. She reads roughly 20 novels a year, and her recent reading includes books by Jonathan Safran Foer and Patti Smith. She also enjoys watching a number of television shows, including cable-network dramas and television journalism. Ms. Catzman loves to cook and sew, talents passed down from her mother and grandfather. She also enjoys dancing and swims nearly every day. Cheryl Catzman is passionate about travel, and has been all across Europe, North Africa, Israel, Mexico, the Caribbean, and the United States. She recently accompanied her daughter on a two-week trip with many destinations throughout England.
In the past, Ms. Catzman has participated in Habitat for Humanity, building homes for those in need. Now that she is retired, she hopes to learn carpentry and other skills. Although Cheryl Catzman's mother taught her many delicious old-fashioned recipes, she enjoys finding a new way to cook healthily, using recipes from Epicurious.com as guides for her culinary delights.
