Sierra Huckins

Cheney, WA

Career wise, I am currently a student at Eastern Washington University pursuing a second Bachelor's degree. I have my first degree in Visual Communication Design and am now working on a degree in Computer Information Systems. After graduating with my first degree in 2011 I moved to Germany to work for a year as an au pair. Upon returning I was not feeling satisfied with my skill set in comparison to my career goals, so I came back to school to formally learn computer programming and also to help extend my social and professional networks. There are many fields, mostly within the technology and design sectors, that interest me and I have a lot of ideas I would like to develop, so returning to school with a little more life experience behind me has been a very different, and far more beneficial, experience than my first round as a student. After school I also work as a Senior Project Manager at a mass mailing and print facility in Spokane, Washington

Other than school and work I have been actively attending meetups in the Spokane area to try and get involved with the community and make as many contacts as possible. I am also trying to get involved in the study abroad organization at EWU as a mentor because I believe that there is nothing more beneficial to young people than to travel and experience other cultures first hand. When I have other free time I enjoy distance running and hiking. I even recently ran my first half marathon, with hopefully many more in the future. I also enjoy digital photography, specifically nature and macro photography. A great day for me is hiking into the woods where it is quiet and the sun is shining and just getting lost taking pictures of bugs and leaves and all those other details that are so easy to walk right past.I am also a self described foodie and love to try new foods and new restaurants, so most Friday and Saturday nights you'll find me having culinary adventures at whatever new or undiscovered place I can find.
