Cheyenne E. Batista

Cheyenne E. Batista is the Founder & CEO of a budding consulting firm, Firefly Worldwide Inc. She has 19+ years of experience in the education, nonprofit, and corporate sectors, most recently having served as Founding Superintendent, Managing Director of East Harlem Scholars Academies (a network of Pre-K to 12th grade community-based public charter schools) where she initially served as Founding Principal.
In her roles, Cheyenne designed and led schools, oversaw strategic planning and growth for the network, managed school principals and network staff, and coached instructional leaders and teachers. She concurrently served on the senior management team that ran the founding organization, East Harlem Tutorial Program (a nonprofit K-12 after school program). At Scholars Academies, Cheyenne led her teams to build high-achieving, loving and restorative learning environments for more than 1,000 scholars, proudly serving nearly 33% students with special needs and 20% English Language Learners. Cheyenne served in a unique player-coach role, for years running the flagship school as principal while overseeing the network and managing the other principals.
Cheyenne first started teaching in New York City public schools in Harlem, NY through Teach For America (TFA). She later joined TFA’s regional staff as Program Director, coaching over 125 new K-12 teachers.
Cheyenne later worked as Program Manager at Grow Network/McGraw-Hill driving complex product deliveries in education assessment data reporting. She then pursued her life’s dream of living abroad and taught elementary at the American School of Campinas in São Paulo, Brazil.
An alumna of New York City public schools and a first-generation college student, Cheyenne graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in communication studies and from Harvard Graduate School of Education with an Ed.M in education policy and management with a focus on urban education. Cheyenne is a proud alumna of Pahara NextGen, a fellowship born of the Pahara-Aspen program, and a member of Education Leaders of Color (EdLoc).
Cheyenne is a die-hard, trilingual New Yorker and loves chasing sunsets and cuisines worldwide, camping, motorcycling, and enjoying quality time with her dogs Dizzy Gillespie (a bilingual Maltese) and Lola (a charming Boxer).
