My name is Chandler Makenzie Hickman. Music is my greatest passion in life. Music speaks to me on a level far beyond that which I am able to convey using the English language. I began studying music in the sixth grade. I remember walking into the band room for the first time and picking up a set of mallets. I can recall the feeling of astonishment I experienced after playing the bells for the first time. I fell in love. I devoted much of my time to practicing and learning new pieces to play and quickly became the best percussionist in my school. Upon reaching high school, I joined the concert band and the marching band. These ensembles allowed me to expand my playing ability, my musicality, and my knowledge of music in general. My junior year of high school, I discovered Drum Corps International, an organization dedicated to young musicians. I was able to spend my summer marching with Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps and competing with other drum and bugle corps from around the world. After I received my acceptance to the University of Georgia, I decided to audition for the Redcoat marching band. I am now a proud member of the drumline at UGA. In addition to fall band, I fill my winter and spring with playing music. I am a member of Palmetto Percussion, an indoor drumline that competes with other indoor drumlines from across the country. My dream is to one day perform on Broadway as Eponine in Les Miserables. I cannot wait to experience the new chapters of the journey upon which music has led me.
