Chief Michael Vogel
Fire Chief and Fire Service in Florida
Chief Michael Vogel is a retired Fire Chief and United States Marine Corps veteran with more than 30 years of experience in fire, emergency medical, and emergency management leadership. Born on August 17, 1965, in Toledo, Ohio, he dedicated his professional life to public safety and community service.
After graduating from high school, Michael J. Vogel enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1984. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he served as a Field Communications Specialist and earned the rank of Lance Corporal. His military service concluded in 1988 with an honorable discharge. He is recognized as a disabled veteran with a service-connected rating.
Following his time in the military, Vogel began his fire service career as a volunteer firefighter with the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department in Cypress, Texas. He later joined The Woodlands Fire Department as a full-time firefighter and paramedic and also served part-time as a captain at the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department. These roles strengthened his operational skills and leadership abilities.
In June 1998, Michael joined the Arlington Fire Department in Texas, where he served for more than 20 years. During that time, he advanced through every operational rank, including Firefighter/Paramedic, Apparatus Operator, Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain, Hazmat Captain, Battalion Chief, and ultimately Deputy Fire Chief and Shift Commander. In this senior leadership role, he oversaw 17 stations and managed a $70-million budget, supervising a wide range of emergency response units.
In 2019, he served as Fire Chief for the Paris Fire Department in Texas, managing a $ 5 million budget and leading both firefighters and code enforcement staff. He later became Assistant Fire Chief for Alachua County Fire Rescue in Gainesville, Florida, where he led significant hiring efforts and completed an ISO inspection. Vogel went on to serve as Fire Chief of the Newberry Fire Department and concurrently as Interim Fire Chief of the High Springs Fire Department.
Chief Michael Vogel holds an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Technology and multiple professional certifications. He has been married to Amy Sue Vogel since October 22, 1994, and they have five adopted children.
