About me

A very quirky thing about me is actually my name, Cho short for Chokaku. I am from Japanese and Korean heritage, and for reasons unknown, my parents consulted a fortune teller late one night, on a bridge near Nihonbashi in Tokyo to pick my name. The weird name that resulted is Chokaku; Cho meaning ‘Long” and Kaku meaning ‘revolution’. The lesson that I’ve chosen to take from this is that every day presents a different, and sometimes challenging opportunity to make life a little better, and the chance to improve one’s circumstances and outcomes.

After arriving in the US at age 17, I chose to pursue architectural design as a career, and continue to be rewarded and challenged by experiences my chosen field. Both professionally and in life, I refuse to be limited or defined by the usual, or the status quo, choosing instead to set my own limits and defining traits. I consider myself to be a progressive thinker, and an individual undaunted by the prospect of change and adaptation. My architectural specialty and focus is retail design and planning. This specialty involves working with clients to enhance their overall retail structure design and flow to maximize customer exposure and experience. It has been my challenge and pleasure to adapt building and architectural flows to suit changing customer tastes and expectations. I am currently involved in a dynamic team environment where my partners and I work to provide a unique design experience for our customers that b incorporates the modern aesthetic of architecture design and blends technology, the senses, and good ecological sense to create an aesthetically pleasing and functional structure. As a senior partner in my group, I see it as my mission to help my more junior partners grow in their capability to provided this type of architectural experience and product to our clients, now and in the future.

What I love to do for fun outside of work

My wife and I are enjoying the challenge of raising our 3 daughters. I also enjoy competitive sports, like squash, but especially soccer, because I enjoy the experience of being a part of a team.

My professional passions

My philosophy of development and architecture is one which involves a dynamic and balanced triad between Art, Technology and Business. These three ideals, in varying proportion, are what I perceive as vital to any successful endeavor. I have a keen sense of which of
