Chris Cobilis is an Australian composer and musician, active in music and sound art since 1997.
Cobilis has composed music for various projects, including feature films, physical theatre and sound installations.
He has appeared on numerous recordings of his own and in collaboration with others, notably with The Tigers, an ongoing rock band from Perth (Boorloo) Western Australia.
Works include:
- This Is You (2016) - a graphic score and script that explores the concept of a metaphysical feedback loop via transcripts of Funniest Home Videos.
- 1%(score, 2017) - score for the Australian biker drama directed by Stephen McCallum.
- Wasted on the Young(score, 2010) - score for the Australian film directed by Ben C. Lucas.
Cobilis' music has been performed by various ensembles and musicians, including Decibel Ensemble, Spektral Quartet and Kenneth Goldsmith.
His installation If You Are a False Don't Entry recreated a retail record store made entirely from self-duplicated copies of records CDs and tapes, bootlegged in real time, capturing the act of listening.
The 2022 release INSTAPHONICS was made entirely from Instagram in real time on three Apple devices. It was self-released on cassette and hosted on Ubuweb.
Since 2025, Cobilis performs as Failing Upwards.
