Chris DeAngelis
I'm a musician, songwriter, radio writer, and audio engineer living in Miami, Florida.
I sing and play upright bass in the honkytonk C&W/rockabilly band The 18 Wheelers. I play electric bass in the instrumental trio, The Gold Dust Lounge. I sing and play upright bass in the folk group, Matthew Sabbatella and The Rambling String Band. I play both electric and acoustic bass in roots rock band, The Hellbillys. I also play electric bass and sing with funk/R&B; artist, Raw B. Jae. In the past, I've led my own indie rock bands, most notably, The Avenging Lawnmowers of Justice, The Whistling Tin Heads, and The No. I published my first recordings in 1984 and continue to write and record songs. You can hear a recent recording of my bass playing throughout the documentary film, Square Grouper, released this year (2011).
In addition to both live performance and recording session work as a musician, I've worked for the past 25 years as a live music audio engineer for a wide variety of musical acts, ranging from the obscure to the famous. I've also done quite a bit of audio for theatrical productions in South Florida since I moved here in 1988.
Though most of my time is spent making music, I also currently work part time as an audio engineer for National Public Radio affiliate WRLN-fm in Miami, executing the live music mix during South Florida Arts Beat with Ed Bell and Evenin' Jazz with Tracy Fields. Additionally, I can be heard on air on the South Florida Arts Beat show on WRLN-fm, when special radio features I've written are broadcast. You may also find me behind the mixing console at The Miniaci Performing Arts Center at Nova University in Davie, Florida.
