Los Angeles
Los Angeles native Christian Campos is managing artistic director of the Horizon Music Group. In three seasons, Mr. Campos has led over twenty choral and instrumental concerts with the group, including collaborations with the Cincinnati Boychoir (Bach cantatas) and Bach Collegium San Diego (St. John Passion). In the past two seasons, Campos has performed at the Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Whittier Bach Festivals. In July of 2012, Campos participated in the three-week long Master Class in Conducting at the Oregon Bach Festival, studying and performing Bach’s St. Matthew Passion under the tutelage of Helmuth Rilling.
Campos graduated from DePauw University where he studied music and economics while participating in honors programs in business management and information technology. While at DePauw, he served as founding artistic director of the Schola Cantorum of DePauw, an ensemble that performed over two hundred works ranging from masterworks like the requiems of Mozart and Faure to newly commissioned works. Their concerts benefited charities like the American Cancer Society and the Special Olympics. A champion of world music, he received a grant from the ASIANetwork to study Indian Carnatic Music, the result of which was the first ever online database of ragas, composers, and compositions.
Since returning to California, he has worked as a guest conductor and contractor of choirs and orchestras, regularly performing with musicians from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and Los Angeles Master Chorale. Campos has served on the faculty at Pomona College and the USC Thornton School of Music, where he recently completed his coursework towards a Doctor of Musical Arts degree.
