Life is a simple four-lettered word, yet it holds so much power. Through my eighteen years of life, I have endured many trials and tribulations. I do not complain because I know there is a reason for everything. I put all of my trust in God, for He has delivered me from all of my troubles. He is the one who has blessed me with many talents and abilities.
One of those many God-given talents is the ability to twirl the baton. I have been a majorette since I was eight years old. I love performing in front of the large crowds at football games because it brings me great thrill and excitement that I cannot experience during anything else. The rush of adrenaline I feel from the thousands of staring eyes reassures me that I am somebody-- somebody who deserves to be happy and somebody who deserves a chance in life. Performing allows me to hide behind a smile no matter what circumstances I may be facing or how I may be feeling. As Erma Bombeck once stated, “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me.”
