I grew up in Nebraska. My parents were public school teachers and my father, Michael Nannen, coached high school sports in Weeping Water, Red Cloud and Yutan, where I graduated from high school in 1990. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law. Prior to entering private practice, I worked with Attorney General Don Stenberg for nine years, serving as an advisor in the positions of Press Secretary and Assistant Attorney General. During my tenure at the Nebraska Attorney General’s office, I practiced in the area of Consumer Protection, working closely with Nebraska seniors and other consumer organizations to fight consumer scams, fraud and abuse.
In 2002, I assisted Mr. Stenberg in publishing the “2002 Nebraska Consumer Guide.” I obtained recognition while working to establish the Nebraska AMBER Plan, a child abduction system implemented in Nebraska in 2002. The documents I produced are now used for Nebraska’s AMBER Plan and as a model for the National AMBER Plan. In 2003, I was honored with the Chairman’s Award from the Nebraska Broadcaster’s Association for my efforts in establishing the Nebraska AMBER Plan.
I belong to several professional and civic organizations including: the American Bar Association, the Nebraska Bar Association, the Lincoln Bar Association, the Nebraska AMBER Committee, Business Networking International, Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Lincoln Independent Business Association, Lincoln Elks Lodge, Lincoln Estate Planning Council, Lincoln Probate Discussion Group, and Citizen Advocacy.
