Christopher Jeffrey
Small Business Owner in Phuket, Phuket Province, Thailand
I arrived in London from Cheshire in my early 20’s, fascinated with the City but lacking the qualifications or coding ability required for a job at a bank. Instead, I set up Kaizen, a tech headhunting consultancy for the financial industry and recruited some of the best young coders and technologists for Investment Banks and Hedge Funds, generally shuffling them from institution A to institution B for pay increases or promotions. The business grew over the 13 years I was involved, expanding into Hong Kong but left me feeling unfulfilled by my work. Watching the iPhone 4 keynote, it occurred to me that perhaps a career in technology was still viable despite approaching 40.
Less than a year after FaceTime became a thing in 2011, I launched the first ever billing and scheduling platform for FaceTime calls. Mobile video commerce was being adopted and seemed to have a future. Shortly after, my wife resigned from her sales trading job and supported by our first tech venture we left the City with my most experienced tech recruiter to invest our time and capital in a new start up, which we decided to base out of Thailand. Since that time, we have been identifying, interviewing (and convincing) leading industry experts across a diverse and often fascinating range of professions to join our platform www.vexbook.com, the go-to for virtual services. Our business offers quick and simple access via Skype or FaceTime to academics, authors, speakers, leaders, counsellors, TEDx talkers and educators across healthcare, finance, childcare, fashion, style and legal to name but a few.
We are looking for an additional 2,000 experts by the end of the year.
