Christopher Portelli belongs to a small category of executives: the engineer who took on a profit-and-loss statement and never gave up either side of the job. A United States Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal veteran with more than two decades spent building organizations on Long Island, he has led SONOTEC US Inc. as Managing Director and President since 2013, growing the American entity of German ultrasonic technology manufacturer SONOTEC GmbH from one employee and no customers into a fifteen-person organization supporting eight figures in annual revenue. Alpha Performance Clinic, a men's health and hormone optimization practice with locations in East Setauket and Bohemia, New York, is his as well, and Christopher Portelli lives in East Setauket. Technical depth alongside commercial accountability, and service beginning in the Navy and continuing through two decades in a volunteer fire department, are his constants.

Both halves of that description are documented. Christopher Portelli holds a Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, awarded in 2004, and a Master of Business Administration from the New York Institute of Technology, awarded in 2006, plus studies in Electronic Engineering Technology completed at the State University of New York at Farmingdale.

MITEQ Inc. in Hauppauge, New York, gave him his start from 2001 to 2004 as an associate engineer and senior technician on microwave and RF components for defense and satellite communications customers. At Veeco Instruments in Plainview, New York, from 2004 to 2007, his system engineer and product manager role covered system engineering and full product lifecycles for advanced semiconductor and industrial process equipment.

Christopher Portelli spent the following six years converting engineering fluency into commercial results. VJ Technologies, Inc. in Bohemia, New York made him Director of Sales from 2007 to 2011, covering United States sales for a manufacturer of X-ray and computed-tomography inspection systems sold into aerospace, defense, electronics, and additive manufacturing, with product positioning, trade show strategy, and lead generation for long-cycle capital equipment sales under his ownership.

Introtek International, LP in Edgewood, New York came next, where, from 2011 to 2012, he served as Sales Manager selling non-invasive ultrasonic sensing technology into medical device and bioprocessing OEM design programs and building the applications-selling experience that would underpin his own company. Bufab in New York followed from 2012 to 2013, where, as Director of Sales and Marketing, he ran American sales and marketing for a global supply-chain partner in fasteners and C-parts and repositioned it toward value-added, total-cost-of-ownership selling.

The work Christopher Portelli is best known for started in 2013, when SONOTEC GmbH of Halle, Germany hired him as the sole American employee of a subsidiary with no customers and no infrastructure. SONOTEC US Inc. was the result. He has carried full profit-and-loss responsibility for the Americas throughout, spanning sales, operations, service, finance, facilities, and personnel, and over more than a decade the entity grew to fifteen people and eight figures in annual revenue. He also owns a 25% minority equity interest in the business.

Getting there meant building the parts of a company that rarely appear in a job description. He built the legal and financial infrastructure and built the customer base from nothing; the names on it now include Amgen, Genentech, Sanofi, Bayer, and Repligen, alongside a national distributor network reaching a second, entirely separate market. He ran site selection, relocation, and build-out of a purpose-built facility in Hauppauge, New York, supporting sales, service, and inventory for the Americas. Not one employee arrived without his hire, and a five-person sales team, the distributor channel, and all Americas marketing and demand generation report to him.

Reporting across an ocean adds a dimension to the job, and Chris Portelli has done it for over a decade. Commercial strategy for the United States is settled in concert with the parent's managing directors and board in Germany, and the forecast underpinning their production planning is his to defend. From that same board, he won an expanded mandate for the American entity, including approval to build in-country calibration and service capability and to carry every product line, which removed transatlantic turnaround times as a competitive liability.

Material agreements are his to negotiate as well, ranging from customer supply and quality agreements to distributor contracts and intercompany transfer pricing terms with the parent. His manner draws consistent descriptions from colleagues and customers: direct, transparent, and relationship-driven.
