Christopher S. Rice, Ph.D. is a futurist, social technology strategist, ethnographer and political theorist exploring the intersections of technology, learning and society. His current work focuses on scenario forecasting and “ethnographies of the future” that explore the futures of postsecondary learning and teaching as well as innovative uses of technology (including augmented reality, social networking, virtual worlds & social media) for collaboration, learning and student engagement. In addition to consulting with higher education institutions, educational technology companies, publishers, and foundations, Christopher is also a partner with Experience Design Works, an innovation consulting firm dedicated to transforming higher education by using Experience Analysis & Design to guide higher education institutions and edupreneurs through program and product development using a deep, data-driven understanding of student and faculty behaviors.
Christopher is also the Associate Director for Teaching and Technology at the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) at the University of Kentucky and teaches courses on political theory, Kentucky politics and Appalachian politics in the Department of Political Science. He has, in the past, worked as Enterprise Architect for Academic Technologies and User Experience with UKIT, Social Technology Strategist in the Office of Undergraduate Education at the University of Kentucky, Research Director of the University of Kentucky’s Appalachian Center and Program Director of the Mountain Association for Community Economic Development.. He has a B.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science with a Certificate in Social Theory from the University of Kentucky.
Currently, Christopher lives in Lexington, Kentucky with his wife, two young and energetic children and a rather daft cat. His oldest daughter graduated from college a few years ago and doesn’t visit him nearly enough.
