Christoph Hagen

I grew up in the german countryside and after school moved to Hamburg, where I took up photography studies and worked in a rental house at the same time.

A year later, I worked for photographer Kajetan Kandler and became a photographers assistant. It was him who introduced me to Cape Town, which was supposed to become my second home.

But first, I went on to live in New Zealand for a year, before finally starting at film school in Cape Town in 2006. I chose the Cinematography major since I had always been passionate about lighting and composition, and it turned out to be the profession of my dreams.

After doing the groundwork as camera assistant for a few years, today I am working as a DOP and am shooting commercials for clients like Adidas, Pampers & Scholl, or music videos to add a bit of fun. Also, my old photography friends now more and more ask me to join them on their shoot as a videographer, something I really enjoy as well.

I live between Hamburg and Cape Town, but I am lucky that my work takes me all around the world. I have shot in places like Russia, Lebanon, Zimbabwe, and of course all over Europe and South Africa.
