Christy Lin
Los Angeles, California
In 2009 on a long stay in Taiwan to visit family, an aunt took Christy on a lunch date where she met Jin-Jing, a family friend, temple scribe, and fortune teller. After dessert and a little prodding (no more than a word from her aunt, really), she agreed to read Christy’s numbers. Out came a pad of paper and pens, and after some scribbling and arithmetic involving Chinese names, pen strokes, and who knows what else, she revealed that love would not actually find Christy until she was 30 years old.
Some girls might be upset after hearing that at the tender age of 20 they would still have to wait another decade for real romance, but not Christy. She’s intent on viewing this piece of news as more of an open ended opportunity: she can take the bull by the horns and fall off, run all the races and probably lose them all too, take the road less traveled and not worry about what’s at the end. Not that she’s playing fast and loose or anything (I wonder how many more expressions can I stick in here?), but why worry about finding “the one” if the numbers say he’s not even supposed to show up for a few more years?
Until he does, why take something like love so seriously? Life is an adventure, and Christy is determined to have the greatest adventure of all. She wants to be the heroine of her own story, although more often than not she may look like the damsel in distress, but that’s just life for you. So read up and enjoy her exploits, good and bad, and don’t be afraid to let her know if you think she’s an idiot, she has never been known for doing things in an orthodox fashion.
