Christy Annis
Teacher in Thailand
Hi, my name is Christy. I'm a multifaceted teaching candidate with diverse experience in education, shopper marketing, digital marketing, social media, paid social and content management. I'm exploring new teaching opportunities and am especially interested in Taiwan and Myanmar.
I'm supposed to be an attorney but discovered along the way, I was too creative for your typical law office. I transitioned to my new life by selling Peas! I created a project, which eventually turned into a business, called Peas for Prosperity. I sold a line of giftable, Southern inspired, Black Eyed Peas. I also created Peas for Paychecks, a program which allowed me to partner with homeless shelters to hire their residents to assist in the packaging and production of the product. I was my own one woman machine - in charge of everything from product creation, sourcing, packaging, social media, marketing and public relations. I received an overwhelming amount of media coverage - the highlight being an appearance on CNN and Fox International.
The happiest I have ever been in my career was during my 3.5 years of teaching English, Business and Economics in China, Vietnam and Myanmar.
I taught a variety of age groups including children, teenagers, university students and adults. Two of my favorite teaching positions include the year I spent teaching university students at Nanjing Audit University in Nanjing, China and the year at Myanmar International School Yangon where I was a Grade 4 teacher. Both of these positions allowed me to use my creativity in designing unique and engaging lesson plans.
For example, during a science lesson I created an experiment to see if the students could fry eggs on the sidewalk using a few different materials including aluminum and plastic wrap. We found the eggs fried best on the sidewalk and the students still remember this lesson, even though it was years ago! We also did an experiment where we filtered muddy water through rocks and sediment to see if we could clean it. The experiment was a success!
I returned to the US five years ago to pursue my career in the advertising industry. However, I found I truly miss teaching and living overseas! I am currently in Thailand and hoping to secure a new contract for the 2019-2020 school year.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any opportunities. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Christy
