If I were a flavor of ice cream, I would be vanilla. While some may see this choice as plain or unadventurous, I see it as a direct representation of the qualities I hold. Vanilla may not be the flashiest flavor in the freezer, but its humble nature illustrates its ability to complement and enhance nearly anything it is paired with.

Vanillas versality is certainly one of its most defining characteristics. It is a foundational element in countless desserts, including my favorite being a warm blackberry pie topped with a scoop. Similarly, I pride myself on being a flexible individual who can integrate seamlessly into different environments and take on various roles. Just as vanilla elevates the flavors it’s paired with, I aim to uplift others and make a positive impact in the community, shown by my involvement with The Warrior Alliance.

I have a saying with my grandparents that goes, “You can’t mess up vanilla.” And I find this statement to hold true no matter the quality of the ice cream presented. It’s a flavor that remains consistent and dependable, even as trends and preferences evolve. Like vanilla, I take great pride in being someone others can count on. This includes showing up for a friend in need or committing to a long-term project. While I value standing out and independence, I also recognize the importance of being steadfast and trustworthy. These skills came in handy when I worked on the line of a well-respected restaurant in Atlanta for two years. These qualities are being increasingly overlooked in favor of more overt displays of individuality.

Interestingly, my choice of vanilla stems from a personal preference of not liking chocolate. This reflects a broader aspect of my personality as I don’t need extravagance or complexity to find joy. Instead, I value simplicity and the richness found in things often taken for granted.
