Chuck Ledbetter

Dothan, Alabama, United States

Chuck Ledbetter, superintendent Dothan City Schools since July 1, 2015 and before that of Dublin City Schools, GA from 2009, has been an educator for 26 years. After attending Furman University and playing football for the Paladins as a freshman, he graduated from Auburn University with a B.A. in history. Dr. Ledbetter taught high school history and government while also coaching football and basketball. He earned a master of education in history from Auburn-Montgomery and a doctor of education in educational leadership from Auburn University.
Dublin City Schools steadily improved over the six years he was there. The system became a charter system and partnered with three neighboring systems to create a regional charter career academy. School choice for all students, academically themed elementary schools, International Baccalaureate programs, project based learning through all grades, and expanded after school and summer programs were some examples of the changes that took place. And, the changes produced results, despite a high poverty rate. Since beginning the charter system and project based learning, discipline incidences have been reduced in elementary schools by 71%. In the last five years, Dublin High School has increased its graduation rate from 59% to 88%. Standardized test scores have increased in every school, and Dublin High School was recognized by US News and World Report as a Best High Schools Bronze Award winner for 2013 and 2015. Chuck Ledbetter has been a middle school principal, a high school principal, assistant superintendent for curriculum and for finance, and superintendent. He served on the board of the Georgia School Superintendents Association and the Georgia Charter Advisory Committee. He is a member of First Baptist Church, Dublin, is married to Kim Ledbetter and has three daughters, two sons-in-law, and three grandchildren.
