Chuck Grimes
As a veteran journalist, most recently employed at The Dallas Morning News as a Senior Project Specialist for Sports for dallasnews.com, I have more than 28 years of media experience (primarily web). Additionally, I have extensive print and online writing experience and have hosted my own sports talk show on an AM radio station in my native North Carolina. All told, I have more than 15 years of radio experience, including holding positions of disc jockey, conducting remote broadcasts and running the audio board, to compliment my print and online experience.
In the sports department at dallasnews.com, I used my 13 full years of tenure to usher in major changes in how the site functioned, the content developed and how our information was conveyed to the reader. From the very beginning, I brought up the level of content, delivery and presentation to a level worthy of a major newspaper's website.
Some of my more noteworthy accomplishments include: helping to formulate a comprehensive site to deal with the history of the Dallas Cowboys (including every game story, charts, lists of every draft pick and the team's coaching history); helping to create a sports style for the site; creating, building out and maintaining an area for a high school leader board. In the past, dallasnews.com dedicated a portion of the site to youth soccer.
Before moving to Dallas-Fort Worth, my journalism career took me to various parts of the country, including Raleigh, N.C., Houston and Huntsville, Ala., making me a well-rounded candidate with a broad base of experience. My career also has afforded me the opportunity to work on the cutting edge of technology. I have used and pushed such products as digital and video cameras, editing software packages such as Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro and others while still in their infancy. At my urging, most of the sites where I have worked have adopted Flash and other editorial tools.
For more than a year, I worked extensively with the iPad and iPhone products for dallasnews.com, with the distribution of information in a variety of forms to these new platforms.
There are many different software packages at which I am more than proficient, including (but not limited to): Dreamweaver, HomeSite and Fireworks; Photoshop, ImageReady and Premiere and Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint. I'm also highly skilled with HTML, XHTML, CSS, SEO and several related web editing functions.
