Ciara Doyle-Waters

Hi, I'm Ciara! I’m a university student living in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I am a fan of movies, yoga, and chocolate. I’m also passionate about cycling, traveling, and sustainability.

I am finishing my last year at the University of Victoria, completing my Bachelors of Arts degree in Geography. I plan to obtain my Master of Arts in Disaster and Emergency Management, so I may achieve my dream job: to travel around the world and work with different cities and their local disaster management teams.

I am currently working at Saint Patrick's Elementary School as an Out of School Care Supervisor. I love working with children. They often remind me about the simple beautiful things in life that adults tend to overlook.

I also work at the funky downtown store Oscar & Libby's, as a sales associate. Working at this store has taught me the importance of supporting our local community.

My top five strengths in accordance with the Strength Finder assessment are Harmony, Adaptability, Inclusiveness, Positivity, and Empathy. These strengths are used in my everyday life at school, work, and in social situations. At work and school I have to be adaptable, positive, and empathetic. These strengths allow me to work through difficult situations, especially with children, where no two situations, or children, are the same. I strive to always be positive in my everyday life. Work and school can be stressful, but always keeping a positive train of thought helps me to overcome all my obstacles.

Travelling is a big part of my life. I love experiencing different places and meeting new people. I always think about what Saint Augustine said about travelling: “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” With school, work, friends, and family I can get caught up in what is going on right in front of me. However there is a huge world out there and I want to spend my life exploring it!
