What's a Fabric Portrait?
Well, if it's one made by Cigi Pix, it's a pixilated image, made up of one-inch squares of fabric, sewn into an art quilt.
Interested in having me create a Fabric Portrait for you? Here's the general info you'll need. (Also, take a look at my pix -- a few samples on FB).
What I'll need to get started:
1. A contact name and email address.
2. 2-3 photos that I may select from for the image in your portrait. It can be a person, a pet, or something else; it just needs good lite/dark balance.
3. Desired completed size. I usually recommend 30"x35", but it depends on the space you're going to display the piece. The final work will be 4"-10" wider/longer, depending on the size of the border/'frame'.
4. Color choice. It can be monotone (various shades of a single color) or multicolored, to match the decor of the room where it will be displayed.
5. Deposit. To cover material costs. The deposit is 1/4 the estimated finished cost, and is not refundable. All payments need to be in the form of a money order or cashiers check made payable to me.
6. Price. This, generally, is based on the size of the image. For an average size quilt, with non-specialty fabrics, the cost is $1.50 per sq. inch. So, for the average 30"x35" quilted portrait, the charge would be $1,575. This includes a 2-fabric border, and the "reducing glass" eyepiece, and documentation on the portrait.
7. Time. It can take a while to select all the right fabrics (the key to this process), edit the digital photo copy and translate it into a pattern, cut all those little fabric squares, and sew 'em together. For a 1,050 square inch image (30"x35"), I will need about 6 - 10 weeks. During or shortly after your consultation, I can provide an estimated completion date.
Other Info: I use 100% cotton fabrics; mostly prints, widely available for quilting. If other specialty fabrics are desired, I would need to price the product accordingly.Unless otherwise requested, my fabric portraits (quilts) are backed with a solid (light) colored 100% cotton, and include a sleeve to enable you to hang the quilt from a cafe curtain rod.
Finished quilts are treated for UV protection.
When you're ready, just email me here.
Thanx!! :-D
