As both Producer and Director of Photography Johnny Derango strives to tell a story truthfully, with beauty, grace and technical prowess regardless of budgetary constraints. He takes great pride in making projects with small budgets and limited resources look on par with big studio or network projects.

Over the past 13 years Johnny has established himself as one of the most sought after young cinematographers in Los Angeles.

Having graduated from Columbia College Chicago, Johnny continues on as part of the great line of Cinematographers the school has produced which include ASC president Michael Goi as well as Academy award winners Mauro Fiore and Janusz Kaminski. Derango began his career by shooting the Tribeca film festival bound feature In the Land of Merry Misfits at only 23 years of age followed quickly by the Fox produced one hour police drama Hollywood Vice at 24.

Since then Johnny has continued to photograph larger projects with more well known casts including Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer (The Help), Rainn Wilson (The Office), Jane Kaczmarek (Malcom in the Middle), Kevin Dillon (Entourage) Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama) and Nelsan Ellis (True Blood) and Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon) just to and name a few.

Johnny has worked as a Director of Photography for Fox, Warner Brothers, Disney, Discovery Channel, TRU TV, and MTV amongst others. His work has been seen at film festivals including Tribeca, Chicago International, Newport Beach and HBO's American Black Film Festival. In May of 2011, Johnny Produced and Shot the feature film Lost on Purpose starring Jane Kaczmarek (Malcom in the Middle), C. Thomas Howell (Southland), James Lafferty (One Tree Hill) and Dale Dickey (Winter's Bone). Most recently Johnny photographed the feature film Waffle Street starring Danny Glover, James Lafferty and Julie Gonzalo. Johnny continues to work as a Producer and Director of Photography splitting his time between Los Angeles and Chicago.
