Cinnamon Moore
Journalist in Chapel Hill, North Carolina
I am a second-year graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Media and Journalism (it's a mouthful I know). I started out my higher education as an environmental studies major, but never forgot my love of writing. Lucky for me, UNC-CH began a dual-degree program my junior year and I was able to combine my two passions: journalism and the environment.
For me, writing is art. It's a skill I'm constantly trying to fine-tune and my favorite creative outlet. Being able to capture emotion and visual imagery through words is, to me, magical. Good writing has the ability to spark movements, introduce people to new ideas and shine a light on what's going on in the world.
I hope to be one of those journalists that uses my skills to have an impact on the world, whether that be at the macro- or micro- scale.
Since the start of my reporting journey, I've held internships with UNC's Institute for the Environment, UNC's Coastal Studies Institute, Environment North Carolina and The News of Orange. All of these experiences have helped me cover a wide range of subject material, making my writing more dynamic and multi-faceted.
While I would like to eventually end up as a reporter on an environmental beat, I genuinely love learning how to cover all subject matter.
