Community Initiative for Social Empowerment — a non-profit CBO registered under the Community Based Registration Act of 2008. Since its inception on May 4, 2010, CISE has evolved into a significant community partner in reducing the incidence of HIV infection in Traditional Authority Masumbankhunda communities in Lilongwe Rural South-Malawi. Our Initiative has developed and implemented comprehensive HIV programs using a preventative intervention method. By communicating information on HIV/AIDS using a broad range of media and community activism we tackle the following challenges: promoting behaviour change among people, developing women’s negotiation skills through gender workshops, and reducing stigmas and discrimination against those people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA).
