Cissy Lewis
Experienced Educator in San Francisco, California
A dedicated and passionate teacher, Cissy Lewis has worked as an educator and academic leader for more than four decades. She most recently served as the academic dean, head of upper school, and assistant head of school at The Castilleja School in California. In these roles, she was responsible for overseeing all daily academic operations and the hiring and recruiting of new faculty members. She promoted professional growth among the faculty and oversaw both curricular review and the faculty evaluation system. During her tenure at Castilleja, Cissy Lewis was regularly recognized for her work. She was a yearbook honoree, a Baccalaureate speaker, and a recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award.
Cissy Lewis began her career in Texas as an upper and middle school English teacher and student advisor at The Hockaday School in Dallas. She later taught at The Harpeth Hall School in Tennessee, where she advised the senior class and helped coach track and cross-country. She then was named the Dean of Girls at Tennessee’s Baylor School in Chattanooga, where she was responsible for helping the then all-boys school transition to coeducation.
Ms. Lewis possesses bachelor’s degrees in English and biology from the University of the South, along with an MA from the Bread Loaf School of English and an MEd from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. She is a former board member of both Grace Cathedral in San Francisco and The Carey School in San Mateo. In her free time, Cissy Lewis enjoys traveling, hiking, and practicing yoga.
