Udaipur- The most beautiful city in the state of Rajasthan, India. Udaipur is famous for its palaces and lakes. Udaipur is the capital of princely state of Mewar. Udaipur is also known as the “Most romantic city Of India” and “Venice of the East”. Most of the tourist flocks to this enchanting city in the heart of the Aravalli Hills. It also has three interconnected lakes: Lake Pichhola, Swaroop Sagar Lake and Fateh Sagar Lake. Udaipur is all about the reliving royalty and appreciating the city's man-made beauty.
In Udaipur there couple of places of interest for tourists. The most important is really majestic structure which stands on the banks of Lake Pichola- the city Palace.
The City palace in Udaipur was built in Flamboyant style and is considered the largest of its type in the Rajasthan. It is built on a hill top that gives an amazing view of the city and its surroundings and including several historic monuments such as lake Palace in Lake Pichola, the Jag Mandir on the another island, the Jagdish Temple close to the Palace.
The city palace was built concurrently with the establishment of the Udaipur by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1559 and his successor Maharana’s over a period of next 300 years. Many Maharana’s Contributed in the construction, but the additions were made in such way that from the outside it looks like one single unit. The city palace is considered as the largest Royal complex in Rajasthan.
In the Palace, we can see the foundation stone of Palace, Mor Chowk with nice working etc. The entire palace has been built entirely in granite and marble. The interior with balconies, towers and cupolas exhibits delicate mirror work, murals, wall paintings, silver works, mirror work and colored glass work. It provides a fine view of the lake and the city from the upper terraces.
The city palace complex has several gates that are known as the ‘Pols’. The main gate to the city palace complex that will take you to the first courtyard is the “Bara Pol “or “great Gate “. Then you will come across the triple arched gate, which is known as ‘Tripolia’. Between the ‘Bara gate and Tripolia gates’ you would see eight marble arches or Toranas, where the kings used to weigh themselves.
