Claire Parker
Student
Greetings! My name is Claire Parker and up until attending the University of Georgia, I was a competitive dancer! I began dancing at the age of 5 back in North Carolina when my mother noticed me dancing and turning cartwheels during my tee-ball matches. She had always wanted me to play some sort of ball sport, but obviously the answer was clear on what I wanted to do. From ages of 5-9 I danced at a studio in my hometown called Heathers Dance Inc, and it meant the world to me. I made so many friends, but then my dad picked up a new job here in Georgia, so I had to say goodbye and find a new studio that would hopefully have the same level of love and fun as my old one. And fortunately for me, I did! From 4th-12th grade I attended Georgia Dance Unlimited located in Dacula, Georgia (where I live now) where I became a competitive dancer, competing in all styles of dance. Dance is something that built my confidence over the years and inspired me to have the courage to be my authentic self. I danced 3-5 times a week during the school year, so finding jobs was difficult. This meant my whole life was just dance and school, but honestly I didn't want it any other way. I think my personal biggest challenge as an athlete/ dancer was when I found out I had fractured the front of my left ankle. I had damaged it back in December of 2023, went the whole 2024 with minor pains, then discovered in early 2025 that my ankle did not heal correctly from its original injury. I felt discouraged my junior year of high school that I had to wear a boot for weeks during competition season, but ultimately, this past year dancing as a senior I felt nothing but gratitude. From the 1st place overalls, to the late nights of rehearsing with my friends after hours like shifts, being a dancer for 13 years has been one of the best things that have happened to me!
