Claire C Austin
I work as an air pollution research scientist at Environment Canada, and I am an Adjunct Research Professor at Carleton University.
I am passionate about reproducible research, open science, data fitness-for-use, and "useable" open data. This has led me to membership in Environment Canada's Data Standards Team and to co-chair Research Data Canada's (RDC) Standards & Interoperability Committee (SINC).
My field of research is in air pollution and in environmental & occupational health. My most recent research is source apportionment of VOCs and PM2.5 using EPA's PMF (Positive Matrix Factorization), in collaboration with Güray Doğan, and the detection of the impact of benzene in gasoline regulations on air quality.
I am Principal Investigator for the National Air Pollution Surveillance (NAPS) program, and I volunteer in professional and community organizations. In my personal life, I enjoy family, friends, and community. My activities include outdoor sports, reading, classical music, photography, travel, and home renovations (my never ending project).
