Clare Ferguson-Walker

Pembrokeshire, West Wales, U.K.

I've written poetry for a long time and have won various awards over the years. I've been performing poetry for almost 2 years now, and have just about got used to having a microphone stuck in front of my face. I can rant about the state of the environment, the fact that I still get spots in my thirties, the boredom of washing up and the gross unfairness of the capitalist system within which we find ourselves. I can revel in the beauty of lichen, the wonder of deep sea creatures and how incredible it is to breath. I have won numerous slams and performed at Dinefwr literature festival. Stand-up comedy has been a fairly natural and organic step on from the poetry. An audience member: "You should do comedy, I could get you a gig", me; "oh go on then!" I havent done very much self promotion but the gigs keep coming in. As a singer I perfom in a duo, with my long suffering husband. We write our own material and it seems to keep our marriage rolling along smoothly (ish). Sculpting is my main day job, I've been proffesional for about 10 years, its incredibly difficult to make a living from it, but I cant imagine doing anything else now, I am in love with it.
