About Clare Fryer

Clare Fryer is a passionate writer whose love for storytelling began in her childhood in Guildford, where she grew up surrounded by books. With a poet father and an environment rich in literary influence, it’s no surprise that Clare developed a deep appreciation for the written word early on. Throughout her teens, she found joy in doodling poetry, and her love for creating stories flourished during school years. While her creative writing took a backseat to other commitments over the years, the desire to write novels always lingered in the background.

In 2022, after taking early retirement, Clare finally found the time to pursue her dream of becoming a novelist. Her debut book, The Invitation, started as a short story inspired by a writing prompt. What began as a fun project won a monthly writing competition in her local creative writing group. This sparked the interest of her mother and several friends, who eagerly asked her what happened next. Clare decided to expand the story, and that short tale grew into the first three chapters of her novel. The Invitation became the first step in realizing Clare’s long-held dream of writing a full-length book.

Clare’s writing often delves into the hidden stories that lie beneath the surface of normal life, exploring themes shaped by both cultural influences and darker, more mysterious forces. Her curiosity about the complexities of the human experience is reflected in the stories she creates. Outside of writing, Clare has a variety of hobbies that keep her busy, including gardening, crochet, and cross-stitch. She enjoys having several projects on the go at once, and these creative outlets often provide inspiration for her writing.

Clare shares her life with her husband, David, whom she has been married to for over 30 years. Together, they have two children who are both happily married, as well as a delightful granddaughter. Clare and David are also proud pet owners of two beautiful Burmese cats, Rosie Posie and Poppy, who bring joy to their days. Writing, family, and the company of her cats now fill Clare's time as she continues to craft her stories for readers to enjoy.
