He is the author of the forthcoming book Boston Ball: Rick Pitino, Jim Calhoun, Gary Williams and the Forgotten Cradle of Basketball Coaches.

Both are published by the University of Nebraska Press.

He teaches US History at Norwich University.

Clayton is the Vermont state chair of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).
