Florence Marmor
I have been working in Jewish genealogy and history for about 30 years minoring in Jewish History in college. I have spent the last 20 years researching Mokom Sholom, Bayside and Acacia Cemeteries in Ozone Park, NY three Jewish cemeteries dating back to just before and after the Civil War. I have been researching their history, current situation and maintaining a list of burials in each cemetery all with the desire to complete the listing of burials in the free burial sections of Mokom Sholom Cemetery whidh is the first organized cemetery area for the indigent in this country. I have researched this area's history since 1861 when it was founded. It is my aim to enter my research online. This work was begun by David Gevertzman and myself about 20 years ago. Mr. Gevertzman and I worked very closely together to do the research and since his death several years ago, I have attempted to continue and have done so with the help and assistance of some vojunteers never reaching the scope that David and I did while he was alive. Hopeully, this research going online will memorialize those buried in the three cemeteries and Mr. Geverzman and will stand as my legacy.
