Clora Adkins

Miami, FL

Retired senior-level correctional officer Clora Adkins, based in Miami, has shared her success generously in humanitarian pursuits over the years. Traveling to Nairobi, Kenya, in 2008, she witnessed a well dedication in the Masai community. Before the introduction of clean water, tribe members succumbed to diarrhea, typhoid fever, and cholera. Villagers hailed the access to clean water, spearheaded by the Apostolic Evangelistic Association and other religious organizations, with songs. They also danced with Clora Adkins and her colleagues to express their joy, and local schoolchildren performed. The nonprofit group Living Water International maintains a presence in Nairobi to train community members on how to drill wells.

In other charitable pursuits, Clora Adkins participates in home builds through Habitat for Humanity International, where she relishes the facial expressions of new homeowners. She also joins local churches in distributing sandwiches for those without homes and serves meals at Camillus House in Miami to people with financial challenges. Clora Adkins' humanitarian efforts benefit the youth, senior citizens, and others in need as well. Additionally, her compassion attracts a number of individuals who seek counsel from her on their businesses, careers, or personal lives.

Clora Adkins retired in 2011 as a Bureau Supervisor and Correctional Captain in the Court Services Bureau of the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department, where she fashioned a lengthy career of promotions to increasingly responsible positions. She also acted as Correctional Captain in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, the Intake and Release Bureau, the Women's Detention Center, and the Training and Treatment Center, overseeing multimillion-dollar budgets and hundreds of employees. A graduate of St. Thomas University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership, Clora Adkins earned certification in Law Enforcement Media and as a Jail Manager and certificates of appreciation as a Women's Role Model and for Outstanding Community Service. In her leisure time, she enjoys such activities as crafting jewelry, gardening, traveling, snowmobiling, and hot air ballooning.
