Coach Jessica Tolonen enters her 9th year coaching with the Clawson Mavericks. Jessica has been involved with organized sports & cheer for over 35 years as both a player and coach. Jessica currently coaches cheer for Troy School District. She spent 1 year as the Head Coach of the Varsity Dance Team at CHS, 3 years with Clawson Mavericks Pep Squad as an Assistant Coach, 2 years as Head Coach with Clawson Mavericks Freshman Squad and 4 years as Head Coach with Clawson Mavericks Varsity Squad. While coaching the Freshman Squad, Jessica's team placed 2nd both years at the OMYFA Cheer-Off Competition in 2006 and 2007. In 2010 Jessica's Varsity Squad placed 3rd in both the cheer round and the dance round at the OMYFA Cheer-Off. In 2011 Jessica's Varsity Squad placed 3rd in the cheer round and tied 4th in the dance round. One of her cheerleaders also received the OMYFA Spirit Award in 2010. Jessica currently serves as the Cheerleading General Manager of the Clawson Mavericks Youth Football & Cheer Organization. Jessica has extensive knowledge in stunting and has introduced and mastered new stunts at all levels. Safety is very important to Jessica as she believes stunting should start out basic. A clean simple stunt is much better than a sloppy advanced stunt. Many of Jessica's cheerleaders have continued on at the Varsity High School level. Coach Tolonen and her husband, Jim, have two daughters, Aby (13) who has been cheering for the Mavericks for the past 8 years and cheered for the competitive middle school team this past year and Audrey (2) a cheerleader in the making.
