Interim Dean of Students Lane College in Jackson, TN
My name is Jerrell Cogmon, and I have spent my entire adult life doing one thing: helping young people discover what they are capable of and then holding them accountable to it.
I grew up in public housing in Tampa, Florida. Football and education were my vehicles. Bethune-Cookman University was my destination. After earning three All-MEAC selections, two All-American nominations, and a professional contract with the Florida Bobcats of the Arena Football League, I dedicated my life to giving that opportunity back to the next generation.
Over 20 years of coaching across every level of the game, NJCAA, FCS, NAIA, and Division II, I have developed two NFL free agents, consecutive Mr. Football honorees in the state of Tennessee, and multiple All-Americans and All-Conference performers. My special teams units have ranked among the best in the country at the Division II level.
I am currently serving as Dean of Students at Lane College while completing my doctoral degree in Higher Education Leadership and Management. I am also a published author. My first book, "How Can I Help: Improving Your Self-Esteem for Life Success," was released in 2023.
I believe the best coaches never stop learning, never stop serving, and never stop believing in the people they were called to lead. It is all on you, and it has always been all on me, too.
