COMMclave 2013: CALL FOR PAPERS -28 February & 1 March 2013. Under the theme of 'Contextualisations and Conversations', COMMclave 2013 welcomes student research papers that engage with the following broad areas of study:
A) Inter-disciplinary approaches to Communication Research: Communication as an established discipline of study is relatively young, in comparison to other disciplines from the humanities and social sciences family. Where does the discipline of Communication draw its substance from and what are the dominant disciplines that have made deep inroads into Communication? Papers pertinent to this area of study could be based on, but not limited to, the following areas: Theoretical leanings of the discipline of Communication /Interdisciplinarity vs. 'Pure' communication research/Space occupied by Communication in the other disciplines from the social sciences and humanities/Paths taken by media research in India and where is its status today/Trends in media education
B) Identity, Representation and Mediation: Processes and paradigms in Communication seek to engage with individuals and groups, communities and societies, and the whole gamut of intermediary issues like access, usage, power, pluralism and diversity. Papers under this theme could delve into the following areas and beyond: Communication and Social Change/Comm & Social Movements/Marginalisation, Identity, Representation/Citizenship and Engagement/Human Rights/Censorship & Control/Crisis, Conflict & Peacebuilding/Ownership & participation/Production & consumption of 'media output'/The business of media, globalisation & the state
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION: Paper presenters should send 300 word abstracts clearly defining the area of research, theoretical underpinnings, methodology and the importance of the study. The abstracts should be sent to contact.commclave2013 (at) gmail.com
• The abstracts will be subject to a panel review, following which authors of selected abstracts will be notified to submit full research papers.
TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION: Selected paper presenters will be provided accommodation in the campus guest house.
• There is no registration fee for Day 1 of the research symposium. Participants would, however, be required to register for the research workshop to be held on Day 2.
• Travel expenses will be borne by participants.
