Hi, my name is Connie and I help the produce industry in the State of Washington understand and comply with the requirements of the FSMA Produce Safety Rule.

I was born and raised in Central Oregon where I grew to love farming, ranching, and being outdoors, working alongside my grandfathers. I keep them in mind when I develop a message for growers; is it accessible, understandable, and practical to implement?

I received my BS in Nutrition and Food Management and my MS in both Food Science & Technology and Horticulture from Oregon State University (Go Beavers!) working on hardy kiwifruit. I earned my PhD in Horticultural Science from NC State University (Go Wolfpack!) working on muscadine grapes and peaches. (For a list of my publications, please visit https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/1JQg5jfmkdiM3J/bibliography/public/.) I have experience in fruit and vegetable, dairy, and meat production and processing, quality assurance, catering, and teaching youth and adults, face-to-face, remote, and online.

In my current position as the Produce Safety Program Manager for the Washington State Department of Agriculture, I serve the people of Washington by supporting the agricultural community and encouraging the safe production of fruits and vegetables.
