Connie Tong

I am a craftsperson and art educator, originally from Scarborough, now based in Markham, ON. I hold a Bachelor of Design in Material Art and Design at OCAD University and a minor in Industrial Ceramics. Currently I'm a Pottery Instructor teaching at Markham Museum.

Growing up in East Scarborough to immigrant parents, I am constantly inspired by the world around me and the every day experiences - especially food. Food is not only a fundamental source of survival, but it also shares space in all culture. By intersecting art and food, my art collection imitates life with equal parts technical challenge, tactile enjoyment and creating meaningful forms.

My work often introduces elements of wit, irony, play and juxtaposition which reflects my philosophical beliefs and daily encounters in life. I believe that as creative beings, we have the capacity to harness our creative potential, to think outside of the box, and to continuously exercise our curious eye to see things differently. We just need to know when to start!
