Founder Part-Time Operator Tall Tailz Charters in Newport, RI, USA
I am a lifelong mariner, charter captain, and someone who has built a career around hard work, discipline, and a deep respect for the sea. I grew up in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, surrounded by a close and supportive family who taught me the value of integrity and responsibility. After finishing high school, I attended several maritime schools and earned multiple certifications, including my 100-ton Master’s Licence at eighteen. That early achievement allowed me to step into real leadership roles long before most people my age.
I started my career in commercial fishing on offshore lobster boats and gillnetters. The work was demanding, but it taught me resilience and teamwork in a way nothing else could. Over the years, I captained rescue boats, passenger ferries, and the Newport Harbormaster vessel before joining Reinauer Transportation in 2014 as a Second Mate and PIC Tankerman. Each role gave me new skills and shaped the way I lead today.
In 2018, I founded Tall Tailz Charters, and by 2024, I committed to running it full-time. My charter company broke the Rhode Island state-record tautog in 2021 and again in 2025—milestones that reflect years of dedication.
I also founded the Dennis Fitz Foundation in honour of a close friend. I donate several charters each year and regularly take foster boys fishing at no cost. Giving back is important to me. It’s part of who I am, both as a captain and as a person.
