I am a Specialist in Geographic Information Systems, Enabling Technology and Tourism with tertiary qualifications and 18 years of international experience.
I am currently on the executive committee of the Standbytaskforce(.com) that pioneered digital humanitarianism. I've also recently volunteered with Planet to be in the first groups analysing daily satellite imagery for humanitarian response.
My day to day work is with Mangoesmapping the winner of several geospatial and innovation awards working with local govt, agriculture and UAV's. I serve on the exec and was the past chair of the regional GIS group (FunGIS.org).
A keen focus of mine is on Startups and Innovation and I currently lead StartupTablelands.org that's enabling rural and remote startups in Australia.
I volunteer on our church business and leadership groups that has established community support programs and an innovation hub.
My experience is in Information Technology & Management, Research (Ecological and Sociological), Human Resource & Financial Management, Marketing, Policy and Reporting as well as Community and Organisational Development.
While working as a GIS Officer for the Tablelands Regional Council, with a specific interest in mapping and modelling disaster related data such as Bushfire, flood and radio propagation I was able to assist in responding to and preparing for events. I work with Lidar data, web-mapping, manipulating large datasets using python and utilising open source software to supplement the utility of commercial packages such as ArcGIS and Mapinfo. A council project which I was the technical lead for won the Geospatial and Information Technology Association of Australia/New Zealand (GITA) Spatial Excellence Award in 2013. I have presented at many industry events and have been invited to present at OZRI 2014.
From 1996 to 2010 I managed community development and conservation programs in Sri Lanka with assignments in China, Indonesia, America and Africa. This work included relief, recovery and restoration projects along with natural resource mapping after the Asian Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004 in Sri Lanka and project level risk mitigation during the armed conflict in Sri Lanka. In 2008 a project I implemented was awarded the UNDP Equator Initiative Prize for Development and Conservation.
