For the past six years I’ve devoted my life to golf course management. Spending summers managing golf courses hands on while learning the sciences behind the practices in the following seasons in school. Always wishing to work in the golf industry I landed my first related job at a local golf course in Plymouth, Massachusetts working on the grounds crew at the age of fifteen. Summers consisted of 4am wake ups and work 5am till 4pm, whereas in high school I dedicated nights to working. Jobs ranged from cup changing to mowing anything and everything; regardless of the job I loved it.

Once graduating high school and having a passion for maintaining golf courses, I enrolled in the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where I earned an associates degree in Turfgrass Management. Working towards this degree I served an internship at Old Sandwich Golf Club in Plymouth, Massachusetts where I worked to perfect my skills in the common practices hands on. Involved in; chemical mixing, spraying, land sculpting, grow-ins, to mowing; the opportunities were endless.

Once graduating Stockbridge in 2012 with my associates, I then enrolled into the University of Massachusetts Amherst for my bachelor’s degree in Plant, Soils, and Insect Sciences with a Business Focus in Turf grass Management. Journeying on towards this degree I’ve spent the following summers, after my internship, at Crosswinds Golf Course in Plymouth, Massachusetts as an Assistant Superintendant in Training. Here I’ve worked to perfect my skills in spraying and mixing chemicals. In addition to these jobs, I’ve gained the responsibility of managing a field crew of approximately fifteen men. Assigning these workers specific jobs out on the course throughout the days has given me managerial experience and allowed me to prioritize what needs to be done on the course for optimum conditions for the customers.

Having good experience and knowledge about the field of turf isn’t useful unless you have a plan for the future. In the coming years of my career I plan on getting an assistant superintendants job at a well-known golf course. At this stage I will learn all the important aspects there are to running a golf course and maintaining fine turf. After experiencing this job and comfortable with what I’m doing I plan on making the next jump into a superintendants position to finally run my own course. With this job as an end goal point of my career
