Cory Abrams
Student, Personal Trainer, and Fitness Instructor in Athens, Georgia
Hello, my name is Cory Abrams and I go to the University of Georgia. Originally, I am from Long Island, New York but I decide to come down to Athens, Georgia for college. Coming down to the South was a big change for me. Life is very different here than it is in New York. In New York, I feel like I am always in a hurry. Everything is so face paced. But in Georgia, people have a lot more patience and take their time while doing things. Another big change for me was the southern accent and language. People say that I have a very strong Long Island accent. My friends love to joke around with me when I say words like “water” or “bathroom." I have also never used the word y'all before coming down here. The hardest part about coming down here was leaving all of my friends and family behind. Yes, I still can and do talk to them all everyday, but it's not the same as being with them. At first, it was a little difficult for me, especially being the only person from my high school to come here. So, I decided t join a fraternity. This helped me make so many friends. These friends help me feel comfortable an are always here for me. I am very thankful for getting the opportunity to further my education at The University of Georgia and I could not be happier.
